Dear Colleagues and Health Professionals,
Today, in parallel with the developments in diagnosis and treatment, cancer has become a chronic disease. Cancer-related pain, fatigue, osteoporosis and lymphedema are among the subjects that have received the most research and interest in long-term cancer patients. Current diagnosis and treatment methods have been increasing in recent years, depending on scientific evidence and technological advances about lymphedema and related diseases, which have become more common with the increase in awareness.
Lymphedema is not only secondary to cancer, but may also develop due to reasons such as venous insufficiency, lipedema, obesity, infection, or primarily due to congenital damage or dysfunction of the lymphatic system. Prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of lymphedema, which complicates the daily life activities of the person and causes deterioration in the quality of life due to the negativities caused by biopsychosocial aspects, is very important. In this regard, physicians (physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, cardiovascular surgeons, plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons, general surgeons, surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, family physicians, pediatricians), physiotherapists, nurses, other health professionals (occupational therapists, psychologists, dieticians, social workers), medical companies and the pharmaceutical industry have very important duties.
It is necessary to increase the awareness and education level of physicians, health professionals, patients and their relatives about lymphedema, and to ensure that patients reach effective treatments in the early period. Anatolian (Turkish) Lymphedema Society, which was established in 2014 for these purposes, previously held a national and international congress, many symposiums, workshops, courses and patient education meetings. We are excited to organize our congress, which will be held for the second time this year, as an international and multidisciplinary manner.
In the first two days of the 2nd International Participation Lymphedema Congress, which will be held in Istanbul Technical University Conference Halls on September 16-18, 2022, panels with the participation of national and international lymphedema authorities will take place, and both national ad international experienced instructors on basic and advanced lymphedema will share their current knowledge and daily practices with us. On the third day, traditional upper and lower extremity lymphedema rehabilitation as well as genital lymphedema courses and wound care workshops in lymphedema will be held by the experienced national and international instructors. We welcome all our colleagues and health professionals interested in lymphedema to our congress. Your participation and support in our congress will honor us. We believe that this second congress will develop and become stronger with your support and contributions.
For this congress, where we aim to share our knowledge and experience about lymphedema, learn what we do not know, reinforce our practical knowledge and skills in workshops, and reach the current evidence-based diagnosis and treatment approaches, we wish you to reserve a place in your agenda and be together.
We wish to meet you in Istanbul on 16-18 September 2022, and express our sincere love and respect.
